Lock Nut Cylinders

Kashon lock nut hydraulic cylinders deliver secure, long-duration load holding for critical lifting and positioning. Each unit features a threaded collar and heavy-duty lock nut that is tightened against the load after the piston extends, ensuring mechanical support even if hydraulic pressure drops. Hydraulics are only required for lifting and lowering, enhancing safety and control during extended operations.

Offered in low-height, lightweight, and high-tonnage configurations, Kashon lock nut cylinders, jacks, and rams are ideal for bridge and building jacking, heavy machinery installation, steel structure alignment, and industrial maintenance.hey provide stable performance, minimal leakage, and reliable operation in demanding field conditions

RACL-Series, Aluminium Lock Nut Cylinders

RACL-Series single-acting lock nut cylinders are constructed of light weight aluminum and offer exceptional durability for long term mechanical load retention. All surfaces are finished with a hard coat to resist damage. A hardened steel stop ring and composite bearings give greater resistance to side loads and a longer cylinder life. An integrated stop ring prevents over-travel for safe operation and a high strength spring for quick cylinder retraction.

Technical Overview

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Working principle diagram
Principle Explained

A lock nut hydraulic cylinder lifts the load by extending the piston under hydraulic pressure. When the target height is reached, run the lock nut down the piston’s full-length thread and tighten it firmly against the support surface.

Once tightened, the load is carried mechanically by the lock nut, thread, and cylinder body. You can safely release hydraulic pressure—the cylinder acts like a self-locking, height‑adjustable support for long-term holding.

To lower, briefly re-pressurize to unload the lock nut, back the nut off, then slowly bleed pressure to retract the piston. Single-acting units return by load or spring force; double-acting units retract hydraulically. For best results, use vertically, keep loads centered, and use a tilt saddle if side loads are possible.

Why Choose This Series

CORE ADVANTAGES

Simple & Reliable

With fewer moving parts and a positive mechanical lock nut, these cylinders deliver secure, long-duration load holding even if hydraulic pressure is lost—ideal for critical lifts.

Efficient Operation

Hydraulics lift and lower; the lock nut carries the load. This reduces pump run time, heat, and energy use while improving cycle efficiency on multi-stage jacking jobs.

Compact & Flexible

Available in low-profile, lightweight aluminum, and high-tonnage steel designs to fit tight spaces, mobile work, and heavy civil projects with controlled, repeatable positioning.

System Compatibility

Rated to 700 bar (10,000 psi) and compatible with standard high-pressure pumps, hoses, gauges, and valves—easy drop-in to existing fleets and tooling.

Low Maintenance Requirements

Hardened, corrosion-resistant surfaces and a single-port layout minimize wear points; robust seals and wipers extend service life in harsh field conditions.

Precision Force Control

Fine thread adjustment and optional tilt saddles enable accurate height setting, reliable force application, and reduced side-load effects without overshoot.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about this product series.

A lock‑nut hydraulic cylinder is a standard lifting cylinder with an added mechanical locking mechanism. After reaching the required height, the load is carried by a lock nut on the external thread of the cylinder head. Even if hydraulic pressure is released or unexpectedly lost, the load remains safely supported mechanically, making it suitable for long-duration holding.

Once the piston reaches the target height, the lock nut is screwed down onto the support surface. The load is then carried mechanically by the nut and collar, not by hydraulic pressure. This prevents creep or sudden drop if pressure is released or a hose is damaged. Key points:

  • Mechanical support: The thread and nut carry the full load.
  • Pressure only for motion: Pressure is needed to lift and to lower after the nut is released.
  • Adjustable jack: With the nut engaged, the cylinder acts like an adjustable, mechanically secured support.

Yes, they are specifically intended for extended holds because the load is supported mechanically. For critical or very long durations, add secondary supports such as cribbing or engineered stands, periodically check nut tightness and base settlement, and protect equipment from vibration, corrosion and temperature extremes.

Size the cylinder to cover the full travel with margin, and ensure it fits your space:

  • Stroke: Required lift plus allowance for settling, shimming, or grout.
  • Closed height: Must fit under the load at the start; choose low-profile models for tight spaces.
  • Nut adjustment: Consider the nut’s fine adjustment range to achieve exact final height.

Extend the piston to the required height, screw the lock nut down against the support surface, confirm full thread engagement, then you may isolate or release hydraulic pressure while the nut carries the load.

They are chosen for tasks requiring maximum safety and long holding times, including:

Bridge and structural lifting
Building and foundation jacking
Heavy machinery installation and alignment
Temporary support during repair, welding, and modification
Heavy load moving, skidding, and staged jacking

Common additions improve control, safety, and productivity:

Pumps: manual for precision, electric/air for speed or multi-point lifts
Hoses, high-pressure couplers, and calibrated gauges
Manifolds and flow/needle valves for synchronized lifting
Tilt or spherical saddles to reduce side load
Base plates, cribbing, and jacking stands for stable support
Quick-connect pressure monitoring for troubleshooting and verification
